Pack Like a Pro: Our Top 7 Packing Tips
Those summer months are upon us, which means people will be heading off for long weekends, family vacations, camping trips, and road trips. It’s so fun and relaxing to get away, even if it’s just for a few days.
The stressful part of every trip is always the preparation: the booking, the planning, and of course - the packing. I don’t know about you, but packing for a vacation or weekend away can be so stressful, especially when you’re in charge of packing for a whole family.
Don’t fret - here is our complete packing guideline. After following these easy steps, you’ll be an expert packer in no time!
- Plan Ahead
Pack based on what you plan on wearing each day throughout your trip. Think of how many articles of clothing you truly need for the length of time you’ll be away, the weather conditions, and the activities you’ll be doing. Once you plan ahead, you may find you need to bring much less than you originally anticipated.
2. Remove Items
If you’re a classic overpacker (guilty!) remove a few items before leaving. This will leave you for more room for souvenirs and any other purchases you make while on your trip.
- Use Your Shoes
Roll and stuff your socks and underwear in your shoes. Not only does this save space, but you won’t need to go digging for your socks and underwear through your suitcase for your undergarments. Put your shoes at the bottom of your suitcase for the best use of space.
- Roll
Rather than simply fold and place your clothes, roll items that won’t wrinkle to save space. You can roll T-shirts, pajamas, flannel shirts, pants, swimsuits, and more. As long as the material isn’t prone to wrinkling, you’re in the clear. The best part? You can place these rolled items in the cracks between your shoes and other items for maximum storage.
- Lay Items Flat
If you have items that will wrinkle easily, be sure to lay them across the suitcase to keep them from wrinkling.
- Use Bags
Bags are your friend! No one wants their dirty clothes to mix in with the clean ones, so bring a few bags to use for your dirty clothes. You can also keep all your toiletries in reusable bags, so in the event that a shampoo and conditioner become open, it won’t get all over your other items. We recommend using plastic bags so that if something does spill it won't damage the fabric of a canvas bag.
- Protect Fragile Items
This is especially good advice if your luggage will be handled by someone else, like an airline employee during air travel. Place all fragile items in the center of your suitcase so they’ll be cushioned by clothes.
