8 Memorable Alan Rickman Movies
Whether you know him as the seemingly villainous Severus Snape, or the over the top Sheriff George of Nottingham, it's obvious that Alan Rickman was one of the greats. Today, we honor his life with a photographic tribute to some of his best movies of his career. What is your favorite Alan Rickman movie?
Die Hard (1988)
It seems impossible, but Die Hard was actually Rickman's first ever big screen role. He was 41 at the time of the movie's release. He captures the cynicism of the ruthless villian Hans Gruber perfectly.
Truly Madly Deeply (1990)
In heart wrentching story, Rickman plays a recently deceased cellist that returns in ghostly form to help his girlfriend move on from his death. Watching him play the kind loving idealization of Nina's late boyfriend, it's tough not to miss him too.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
"That's it, then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call of Christmas!". Rickman steals the show with his over the top acting (not something you normally see from him) in this movie.Â
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
After an impressive showing in Robin Hood, Rickman landed the role of the melancholy but true hearted Colonel Brandon in the film adaptation of the Jane Austin novel.
Galaxy Quest (1999)
It's not all drama for Rickman. He lets his inner comedian loose in this spoof of Star Trek. His impressive combination of drama an comedy makes him the perfect fit for the roles of a serious thespian turned sci-fi TV show has been.Â
Dogma (1999)
1999 seemed to be the year of testing his comedic chops. How can you not love Rickman as the voice of God? His dry and sarcastic demeanour is the spot on for this edgy religious comedy written by Kevin Smith.Â
Harry Potter (2001-2011)
Probably his most famous role was as the seemingly villainous Severus Snape. Only Rickman could make us fall in love with such dark and complicated character. Once seen as one of Harry Potter's worst enemies, we eventually learn his true nature and intentions all along.
Love Actually (2003)
This feel good holiday movie brings together an impressive ensemble cast including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson and of course, Alan Rickman. Although he's very convincing as the less than loveable husband that strays from his wife (played by Thompson), this is still one of the best modern day Christmas movies.Â
