10 DIY Crafts to Keep the Kiddos Busy!
There are so many unique and fun ways to keep your kids entertained without spending much at all. Take a look over these 10 Easy DIY crafts that will keep your kids busy for hours, indoors and out!
Snow Paint
Depending on your location, and time of year, this could be an awesome and fun activity for both the kids and you. This super simple recipe has 2 ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen, water and food coloring. Add small drops of food coloring to water and place in a spray bottle for even more rainbow fun!Â
Liquid Sidewalk Chalk
It’s crazy how easy this recipe really is! Use 1 cup of water and 1 cup of cornstarch, add in food coloring, and you have your very own liquid sidewalk chalk. Putting the chalk into a muffin pan makes for an easy cleanup, and helps to keep everything all in one place.
Glow in the Dark Bouncy Balls
With 5 simple ingredients you and your kids can make your very own glowing bouncy balls. Use ½ Tsp of Borax, 4 Tbsp of Corn Starch, and 4 Tbsp of warm water; mix all ingredients together until they dissolve. In a separate bowl combine 1 Tbsp of white glue, and 1 Tsp of glow in the dark paint. (You can keep out the glow in the dark paint for a regular bouncy ball). Combine both bowls together, and allow them to react for about a minute before stirring. The material will become sticky and hard, mold and shape it into a ball shape, to form your bouncy ball.
Melted Crayon Art
I have seen this one around for a while now and always thought it was unique. It wasn’t until I looked into how to make it, did I realize it really isn’t that difficult. Not only is this fun, and entertaining, has it also made for a great teacher gift at the end of the year! For this project you will need:
- Crayons
- Hot glue gun
- Blow dryer
- Frame (optional)
- Cardboard cut to your ideal size.
Glue each crayon onto the cardboard using a hot glue gun, lay the cardboard at an angle, and use set your blow-dryer to the lowest and warm speed, and begin melting each crayon. You can move the wax around to create your own unique design as it starts to fall. Allow the project to cool. When finished and cool, add it onto a frame for a more permanent look.
Homemade Floam
Who doesn’t love Floam? The odd texture is a magnet for little hands. To create your very own Floam at home use 2 tsp of Borax, ½ cup of warm water, 1-1/3 cups of polystyrene beads, and 2 oz of white school glue. You can also add in food coloring if you wish to make a rainbow of colors. Mix the Borax with the warm water until the borax is dissolved completely. In another bowl mix in ¼ cup of the glue with a ¼ cup of water, and food coloring if necessary. When they are both mixed together, put the glue mixture into a Ziploc bag, add in the beads, and then add in the borax and water mixture. When everything is sealed in the bag, mix until your floam is formed.
Homemade Play dough
Homemade play dough is honestly much more fun than the real thing, because it’s less expensive! To make your very own dough, use 3 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, 2 tsp salt, 1 cup of cold water, and food coloring. Mix everything together and keep kneading until it’s just how you like it. You can even add in a hint of peppermint or vanilla to make it smell great.Â
Spaghetti Slime
Kids of all ages will love this unique DIY craft/ activity. All you need to make your own spaghetti slime is vegetable oil, 1 box of spaghetti, water and food coloring. Put 4 to 5 cups of water and 1 tbsp of oil in a pot with your food coloring, and add in 1/3 of your box of spaghetti, when your spaghetti is fully cooked it will turn the color of your water. Drain the spaghetti, and repeat for each additional color.Â
Ocean in a Bottle
This is really one of the coolest things I’ve seen in awhile. To make your very own Ocean in a Bottle you will need
- Water
- Cooking oil
- 2 Liter bottle
- Funnel
- Food coloring
Fill up 1/3 of your bottle with water, add in a few drops of food coloring, shake the bottle to mix up the food coloring, add in your oil, and watch it come to life!
Glitter Slime
All kids love the feeling of slime between their fingers. Your kids will thank you for making this awesome and quite appealing craft for them. Take 1 color of glitter glue, 1 cup of water, 1 tsp Borax, and 1 tb of water. Mix 1 tsp of borax and a cup of water together, empty your glitter clue into a bowl, add in 1 tb of water and mix it together with the glue. Pour in the borax mixture, and combine to form your glitter slime.
Homemade Bubbles
Every kid loves bubbles, but they don’t like when they have to use more energy to blow them for them to just disappoint them. Here is an amazing bubble recipe that will create large, glorious bubbles. Use 1 gallon of water and add in 2 or 3 tbsp of glycerin or corn syrup, and 2/3 dish liquid. Stir together and test it out!Â
