10 Uses for Baking Soda
You’d be surprised how many uses there are for baking soda. From cleaning around the house, to baking, there are a ton of different ways you can use one simple ingredient. Baking Soda, or bicarbonate is frequently used in many recipes, but there is a vast amount of ways you can also use it to help freshening and clean your home. Read on below to find out just a few of the many ways you can incorporate baking soda into your daily routine.
Stovetop Cleanup
Do you have a mess on your stovetop after cooking your family dinner? Well have no fear, baking soda is here. Generously sprinkle it over the top of the stove and spray it with hot water (boiling if you can get it) enough to just dissolve the baking soda without really making it run. Then let it soak for about 30 minutes and scrub it clean.
Coffee Mug Stain
Remove stubborn stains from your coffee mugs by just wiping them with a wet cloth, then rub inside the mug with your baking soda. If they are particularly very stubborn stains you can let them soak overnight in hot water and baking soda to help make the scrubbing process easier in the morning.
Microwave Cleaner
Does your microwave seem a bit down in the dumps lately? Clean it up rather quickly by adding in a couple of teaspoons of baking soda to a bowl of water and put it inside the microwave. Heat it up for about 5 minutes depending on how much stuff if stuck in there. When it stops, be sure to keep the door closed to help keep in the moisture and steam. Remove the bowl, and take a warm, moist cloth to the inside. The crud inside should wipe up rather easily now.
Windshield Bug Scrub
Mix a solution of baking soda and liquid detergent for dishes in about a 70/30 mix until you have a light paste. Then dab a wet sponge onto the paste to get a good glob of it on it and scrub the inside of your windshield. Rinse it off. It’s important to remember that dish detergent isn’t necessarily good for car paint, so keep your solution strictly to your windshield.
Deodorant Stain Prevention
To help prevent future deodorant stains to your clothes, be sure to put on baking soda under your armpits just after putting on your deodorant. This will help keep those nasty little stains sat bay by adding in an additional moisture barrier.
Crayon Removal
This is a great little tip. To help remove crayons from walls, you can make a paste with baking soda and water and gently scrub over the marks left. You can also sprinkle the baking soda on a damp sponge and rub it on.
Homemade Deodorant
Make yourself up a quick and easy deodorant using only 1 part baking soda, tea tree oil and 1 part cornstarch. Combine all the ingredients together and store in an airtight contain. Apply when needed.
Dry Elbow Magic
If you suffer from dry elbows, you may be searching for a way to rid yourself of them. Here’s the solution. Mix fresh lemon juice with making soda to make a thicker paste. Apply this paste to your elbows. Rub it into the skin to exfoliate the skin and leave it on for about 15 minute’s time. Wash it off and put on a moisturizer or Vaseline afterwar
Wasp and Bee Sting Remedy
Help to kill the pain of wasp or bee stings by making a thick paste of baking soda and water. Apply this paste to the sting area, or even on a mosquito bite. This paste will help provide not only pain relief but also itch relief.
Heart Burn Relief
If you are suffering from heartburn, why not give this solution a try. Use baking soda and water to help neutralize the acid in your stomach. This should really be used in moderation only, as regular use could increase your salt intake. Mix ½ tsp. (2.5 mL) to 1 tsp (5 mL) of water. If you are pregnant, you shouldn’t use this remedy due to the high salt value of baking soda.
